The information on this page and all the following
identification pages is as complete as we could make it but possibly not
everything is 100 % correct at this moment. Being 100% correct on every little
detail is near to impossible but we are seriously aimed at getting it right.
The
very first Sindy doll was Made in England from 1963 up until 1965 by
Pedigree. She is 29cms ( 111/2" ) tall and she has a
soft vinyl head with rooted hair that has a centre parting and a fringe (bangs). She has soft vinyl arms that you are able to bend, but they will
not hold a pose, and hard hollow legs and torso. Three hair colours were
available, blonde, auburn (chestnut )and brunette. She was
marked MADE IN ENGLAND on or in the hairline at the back of her neck. This
is her only marking her torso is not marked.
Made in England Sindy from 1965
The second issue Sindy doll was Made in England from 1965 by Pedigree.
She is 29cms ( 111/2" ) tall and she has a soft vinyl head with
rooted hair that has a centre parting and a fringe. She now has heavy
vinyl legs with a wire inside them so she is now able to pose and soft vinyl poseable
arms with a wire inside. Three hair colours were available, blonde, auburn ( chestnut ) and
brunette. She was marked MADE IN ENGLAND on or in the hairline at the
back of her neck. This is her only marking her torso is not marked.
The next Sindy was made in Hong Kong from 1966 until 1967. She is 29cm
(111/2") tall. She has the same size head and body of the first
Sindy but is made from a heavier vinyl, her arms and legs have a wire
inside so that her limbs can be bent and hold a pose. She has a
fringe and a bubble shaped hair style that is parted down the middle.
The hair colours available are auburn, blonde and dark brunette.
She is marked Made in Hong Kong in very small letters on her waist only
and her head is unmarked.
Mini Sindy was made in Hong Kong in 1965, she is 27cms
tall ( 101/2") and is marked MADE IN HONG KONG in tiny letters on the
back of her waist. She has a smaller head than the normal Hong Kong doll (
shown above ) and this head tends to wobble about a little but she has
very beautiful hair that looks like a bubble with a fringe. The head is
not marked. She has smaller very hard arms and legs, than the doll
pictured above. Sindy shoes are to big for her and fall from her
little feet. Hair colours available are blonde, auburn and brunette
This doll pictured here is referred to as the Marilyn
Sindy by collectors
because of her platinum blonde hair and bright red lips. She is a
transitional Sindy made in 1967 she is 29cms ( 111/2") with a
body the same as the first Hong Kong Sindy with a wire inside her legs so
that they pose. Her head was made from a new
vinyl, This vinyl tends to pale very badly. Sindy has rounder eyes
than the previous dolls and her hair is very fragile and tends to go
wooly. She is also available in brunette and auburn.
She is marked MADE IN HONG KONG on the back of her head
and waist.
The New Look Sindy was made in 1968
and now has a new style Sindy body with a twist waist and slightly longer
legs and the body is not marked. Her head is made from the new Vinyl that tends to pale (
like the Marilyn Sindy) the head is marked MADE IN HONG KONG on the back
of her neck. She now has a new hairstyle parted on the left hand side,
longer in length and styled in a flip and she now has real eyelashes.
These eyelashes are made from a strip and are quite hard and fitted into a
slot along the very top of her eyeball just under her lid. Hair
colours available are Blonde, platinum, brunette and auburn
Walking Sindy was made in 1969 and is the tallest of all
the Sindy dolls,, she is the same as the side part sindy but with a
different bottom and soft rubbery legs. Her legs swing freely when you
hold he by the waist giving the impression that she walks. Hair colours
available are Blonde platinum, brunette and auburn
New Zealand Sindy was
made in the late 1960s and looks like a put together doll which she basically
is. Pedigree sent Sindy parts to New Zealand to the Lines Brothers
factories, where they were put together. In New Zealand they presumably
used up all the available parts sent to them, so in that part of the
world many Sindy's are found with big pink hard plastic (unbending)
hollow legs, and hard plastic miniature heads and arms.
Sindy is 11 1/4 inch or
28,5 cm tall and is marked Made in Hong Kong on her waist.
Her head is the same as
the miniature Sindy head and her Hair colours are brunette, blond and
auburn.
